Just curious, is there a benefit for white socks to have a gray bottom? http://grab.by/5zmT
Like, is there a reason why sock manufacturers do that and why would they be better than normal white socks? It seems strange for them to put in extra effort to make socks like that when the gray part won't get seen when you wear them in shoes anyway.
It's just one of those "world's mysteries" that I wonder if anyone knows the answer to.

Friend 130 / M / Tampa, FLMaybe that part is more likely to get permanently stained by dirt and sweat, so it looks cleaner than it would if it were white.

Friend 230 / M / Sunnyvale, CAIt would allow them to make the socks with two different fabrics. The grey fabric is possibly more durable or better wicking, and having a darker color would show less dirt. I'm sure the bottom and heel areas see more stress than the top and tube portion. Or maybe it's just aesthetic?

Friend 3M / Bonn, DEMaybe it's because white socks get dirty more quickly then grey socks (or at least it seams to be that way).
