When I backed up my Mozilla Thunderbird mail I ended up backing up only the Mail folder within my profile folder. Is it possible to restore my mail without the full profile folder? How?

    Thanks for the link.. :)

Tried, didn't work. Seems to work only if I have the full profile directory. Does not work if I have only the Mail subdirectory of profile directory :(

sorry to hear that - can you move the mail subdirectory manually into the recovery profile directory then try?

tried that. Did not work. The folders in the mail directory did not show up in Thunderbird.

Sorry, out of ideas for now. you might try tools > Import and point thunderbird to that mail folder.

Thanks for taking time out. Tools import didn't work. Tried Mozbackup. Didn't work either. Guess I have to get the mail I want from somewhere else.

The best way to backup your e-mails is to export them into a file (in mbox format).

    Take a look at: http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq#export

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately I can't take the backup now. But the link mentioned that it was the standard mbox format. Let me see if something will read the mbox format

Mostly all e-mail clients support the mbox format. So it's pretty easy to import your backup.
