Somehow the USB connector on my 8GB SanDisk Cruzer got bent while it was plugged in today. The connector wouldn't retract; it was about 10 degrees off of true. Should I run a backup as soon as possible? What's the likelihood that the drive will fail in short order because of this?

yes, make a backup ASAP and consider that USB drive as an unreliable storage device now

Thanks. I'll start looking into a new one. Maybe this is a good excuse to upgrade to a 16GB drive. ;-)

10 degrees shouldn't be too bad - I've seen them as bad as about 40 degrees and still work.

You should still probably make a backup and then consider how physically stable it seems. If it seems loose or like it might crack. consider a new one. The only thing you really need to worry about is if the USB "prong" separates from the little computer chip inside - and they're pretty durable. Good luck

Thanks. I figured it'd be fine; I'll just start making more frequent backups just in case, and will look into getting a replacement for when the failure comes.
