I am wearing a full puppy costume to work Friday, and I have a Halloween party that night. Somebody asked me out for a coffee date after work and is sooo cute, and excited. Would it be a bad date if the person you were dating showed up dressed like a cartoon puppy?

i think that would be an awesome ice breaker. you would certainly probably be the most memorable of first dates they have had. it's high variance, i say do it, unless of course the person is super easily embarrassed in which case they might feel awkward being with you. otherwise, sounds good

No, full costume, head to toe. Like a costumed mascot. Big cartoony eyes. I would take the head off.
    Friend 3
    33 / F / San Francisco, CA
I think it is okay if you take the head off. She will probably think it is cute and who knows, she could be into that kind of thing...

and it never hurts to come across as being casual. By not changing, you are showing that you are not taking the date too seriously. It will be a nice ice breaker too.

I think that is very likely to be a bad idea. Even if they might eventually think that was cute, it's going to give the wrong first impression. Is that really the first impression you want to give them? I would change out of the costume or try for another day.

that is the awesome-est question ever. I think since that costume somehow fits your personality, if the cute guy doesn't like you in it, the relationship won't work in the long run anyway. You can save your super cute outfit for date #2. I guess the only other thing is if you think he might assume you're uninterested, so just make sure he knows that the puppy is interested. ;)

um, yes, it's a bad idea. Unless the person is someone you know very well, save such silliness for later.

no, as long as it wasn't a mismatch for the coffee place... don't want him(?) to feel bad for taking you some place your costume didn't fit.

seriously? the only acceptable date involving costumes is if you are going to the costume party together. otherwise, plan ahead to make it as easy as possible to change in and out of costume for the date, as you may be crunched for time.

some people might think you would show "your zany, crazy side" but that approach is not generally suitable for most ladies. you would be risking embarrassing yourself and your date, and its better to play it safe

understandable, but you would have to know ahead of time, not a good surprise to spring on someone who isn't already a close friend or girlfriend.

In any other situation, I'd say yes. But I think as long as you warn her in advance it shouldn't be a problem. Definitely don't just show up in a puppy suit without prior warning, though.

naw, go for it. i think she'll get a kick out of it, and it'll help show that you like to have fun. it's a risk, sure, but i think a puppy costume could make a great first impression if you pull it off with gusto.

I think if you let them know ahead of time that you will be garb'd out in furry cuteness, everything should be ok. There's nothing worse than expecting one thing and getting another. Just ask them if they mind... Considering the time of year, it shouldn't be an issue. ;)

It depends on the person. If you would like to date a fun easy going individual and they find it funny or do not mind you wearing a costume, then that tells you that person is fun and easy going. If you want someone who is very proper or serious then they may not be too happy with you.

The date's reaction will tell you about their personality. It shouldn't be a deal breaker in any case though!

cutest thing ever. If your date is a worthwhile person and at all compatible with you, they will appreciate the cuteness and ingenuity of your costume. Now your boss on the other hand... :-)

If I show up a few weeks from now dressed like a dog, I'm pretty that would make me insane. Then they would have good reason to worry. Halloween is the only reason this could be ok.

If I were you, I would maybe warn them first and assess their reaction. Maybe they'll be in costume too, or will decide to be once they find out you'll be. If I really liked the person I was dating, I would think it was adorable and memorable. If I wasn't that into the person, then I'd be embarrassed. I know, double-standard, but that's the way it goes... Have fun!

:-) It is likely that it would color her impression of you forever afterwards, but whether it would be positively or negatively depends on what kind of person she is and what she wants in a partner. Would it be possible to explain the situation to her, and ask her whether she's ok with you being in costume during the date, or whether she'd prefer to reschedule the date for some other time?
